When we were first tasked with creating a parody, my partner and I had no idea where to start. After a few days, we decided to start by choosing a song, then a topic that could fit. We opted for Crocodile Rock by Elton John because it’s fun, upbeat, and a song most people will recognize. The topic was a little easier, even though we figured it’d be a pretty common one this year. We were both struggling to adapt to a new form of school, and what better catharsis than to make jokes about it? We each wrote our own verse about what problems we were personally going through - the feeling of loneliness, struggling to make due dates, and not being able to pay attention in class, just to name a few examples.
I’m pretty happy with the lyrics we came up with. The lines may not always rhyme and some may feel a little forced, but it’s fun and discusses a common problem among students in this current situation. The production aspect, however, I was not as pleased with. When I tried to remove the vocals of the original song, the chorus refused all of my attempts. Overall, though the production was a little messy, I think we were able to create a fairly solid parody.
